Emotional Preparedness College Bootcamp

A program specifically designed to help you or your college bound loved one prepare for the parts of college that they don’t teach you about in school. You know, the “COLLEGE!” parts of college.

  • Oftentimes the academic rigor of higher education is the most familiar part of this huge transition. As you prepare to enter this new phase of life you might find yourself feeling lost, overwhelmed, and unsure of what to expect. This is a curated, psychoeducational, skills and process oriented program aimed at the unique stressors that new college bound students face.

  • The basic program is comprised of six, (one hour) sessions with specific modules and talking points for each session geared towards the student’s upcoming first year at college. This is typically offered over the summer, (unless the timeline is different and the student is not starting in the Fall) and offers an optional add-on service, “Winter Check-In” to follow up on how the first semester went. Depending on the client and clinician’s availability, these sessions can occur once a week, or spread out over the months prior to departure. If the sessions need to be expedited, there may be an extra cost that will be discussed prior to signing up.

The nature of the program is semi-structured, psychoeducational, as well as skills-based coping and strategies for navigating the social, emotional, and psychological impact of this adjustment.

There are options for additional sessions on top of the core six, depending on the clinical needs, desired frequency, or parental/caregiver consultation. Please note: any family involvement requires permission from the identified, primary client if they are over 18 years of age.

  • Topics that will be discussed include, but are not limited to the following:

Self-care and academics, boundary setting, coping skills, identifying mental health concerns and when to reach out, managing interpersonal conflicts, making friends, “adulting” skills such as sleep hygiene, food concerns, and joyful movement. There will also be focus on sexual health and wellness, substance use, consent and self advocacy which will be individualized based on the client’s needs.

No topic is off limit. It is extremely important to address the specific concerns about this highly anticipated life change. The goal is to be informative and practical so the student’s time in college is a memorable and enriching.

  • If you or a loved one is interested in more information on how to sign up for the program, please contact me via email requesting an initial consultation, providing me with availability and other details about the potential client.

There will be a free phone consultation where basic information will be gathered, proper fit is determined, and scheduling is agreed upon. Electronic paperwork will be distributed, and will need to be completed prior to the first session which includes payment. Any additional services can be requested and discussed at any time.
